      Generally, the description of the fabric is not very detailed, only that it is CORDURA or HD. All it says is a weaving method. A more detailed description should be material + fiber degree + textile method. For example: N. 1000D CORDURA means 1000D nylon CORDURA material.

      Many people think that the "D" in the backpack material stands for density, or weight. None of this is right. D is an abbreviation for denier. And Denier is the unit of measurement of fiber. The calculation method is: 1 gram per 9,000 meters long line is called Denier. Therefore, the smaller the number in front of D, the thinner the line and the smaller the density. For example, 210D material has very fine lines, and is generally used as the lining or compartment of the bag. However, 900D or 1000D materials have thick lines, thick threads, and are very wear-resistant, so they are generally used as the bottom of bags.

      Let me talk about the materials first. The raw materials of the fabrics generally used on bags are Nylon and Poly, and occasionally the two materials are mixed together. Nylon and polyethylene, these two materials are extracted from petroleum, Nylon is better than Poly, and of course it is a little more expensive. From the fabric, Nylon feels softer.

      The following is a brief introduction to some fabrics that often appear in backpacks:

      1. CORDURA is a fabric invented by DuPont. It is light, quick-drying, soft and durable, and it is not easy to change color after long-term use. It is said that this kind of fabric will appear in two colors when viewed from different angles, and no one except DuPont's company knows how to produce this kind of material. Generally woven with Nylon, with Denier as the strength standard, there are 160D, 210D, 330D, 420D, 600D, 900D, 1000D, etc. The higher the number, the stronger and the thicker the texture. Generally, 160D to 210D are used on clothes or as the lining of general outdoor bags. This kind of material is coated on the reverse side, and the general moderate rain will not soak the material.

      2. KODRA is a kind of fabric produced in Korea. To some extent it can replace CORDURA. It is said that the inventor of this fabric originally wanted to study how CORDURA is spun, but in the end he did not research it, but invented a new fabric, which is KODRA. This fabric is generally woven with Nylon, and the fiber degree is also used as the strength standard, such as 600D and 1000D. The back is coated, similar to CORDURA.

      3. The warp thread of OXFORD Oxford spinning is made of two strands of thread, and the weft thread is also made of relatively thick thread. Its weaving method is one up and one down, which is a very general weaving method. Generally 210D, 420D material. The reverse side is coated. Use as a lining or compartment for a bag.

      4.HD is the abbreviation of High Density, which means high density. Look at the fabric and OXFORD is similar. Generally 210D, 420D, usually used as the lining or compartment of the bag. The reverse side is coated.

      5.R/S is the abbreviation of Rip stop. The fabric is nylon with small squares. Its toughness is stronger than that of ordinary nylon, and thicker threads are used around the squares on the fabric. The middle of the grid is woven with very thin threads. Generally, there are 300D, 330D, 450D, etc., which can be used as the main material of backpacks, such as large sides, outer pockets and other parts. The reverse side is coated.

      6. Dobby The fabric of Dobby seems to be composed of many very small grids, but if you look closely, you will find that it is woven by two kinds of threads, one thick and one thin, and the front and back patterns are different. Generally very little coating. The strength is much worse than that of CORDURA, and it is generally only used in leisure bags or short-distance travel bags. Do not use it on a hiking bag.

      7.VELOCITY is also a kind of nylon cloth. The intensity is high. It is also generally used on mountaineering bags. The reverse side is coated. There are 420D or higher strength. The fabric front looks a lot like Dobby.

      8. TAFFETA is a very thin coated fabric, and some are coated more than once, so the waterproof performance is better. Generally, the main fabric of the backpack is not made, only the raincoat or the rain cover of the backpack.

      9. Poly PU is generally replaced by Poly. Poly density is generally 64t (low), 74t (medium), 82t (high). The strength of the fabric is getting stronger and stronger from 150D to 1800D. Generally, those with a strength of 600D can be used as the bottom of the mountaineering bag, but its weaving method is not as strong as CORDURA.

      10. AIR MESH Generally, it is called space network in Chinese, which is different from the general network. There is a gap between its mesh surface and the material below, which is generally 3mm or larger. And it is this kind of gap that makes it have good ventilation performance, so it is generally used as a strap or back or other places close to the body.
